Crafty Cat 4/10/2019 6:57 PMI haven't had everything I throw away on my list of wasted food because it was either a very little amount like a crumb or I gave it to someone else and I didn't know if they threw it out or not. I try my best to reduce the amount of food I throw out by taking smaller portions. I didn't notice how little waste I actually threw out over the past few days, I thought it would be a lot more. But if these are the big parts of food I have wasted than I believe I have done a pretty good job.
Daily Food LogFood wasted:
- Water melon rine
- Chicken
- Potato
- Cheese
- Apple cores
- water melon seeds
- carrot peels and endsThere are probably a few more I missed in my list but I still think I did pretty well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Crafty Cat 4/07/2019 1:36 PMAs someone who does art crafts, I like to reuse paper towel rolls, cardboard from pizza boxes, broken items or even parts of food that won't go bad such as a coconut shell. It's really fun to give these items another purpose.-
Andrea Stephens 4/08/2019 3:19 PMThis is a great answer to this question - REpurposing for ART!
It creates beauty and helps us REimagine our Waste!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Crafty Cat 4/07/2019 1:33 PMYou won't stuff yourself and you can eat all the food on your plate and not just some. Also with me I tend to eat one part of my meal at a time so if I fill up on one then I can't eat the others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Crafty Cat 4/06/2019 7:14 PMNot very hard considering I've already had a pretty eco-friendly diet. Though now I have to check to make sure the cocoa I use doesn't cause deforestation -
Crafty Cat 4/03/2019 7:09 PMDid you know Cadbury cocoa company still refuses to accept global deforestation-free policies! This includes FRY'S Cocoa, Dairy Milk, Cadbury chocolate, Crunchie and many more!
Check out this link to find out more.

Tara Stephens 4/07/2019 11:34 AMGREAT, thanks I did not know that! Did you find a company that follows the policies? I have found some chocolate companies but not specifically cocoa companies yet! Can you post an update if you find one please :)
Here is another link for more info on the 'deforestation-free supply chain' further :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Crafty Cat 3/30/2019 8:33 AMI would rather use this $1,500 to get locally grown food. Or I would get all the supplies needed to make my own garden, or potentially my own little green house.-
Tara Stephens 4/06/2019 9:57 PMAre you saying you are going to plant a veggie garden this summer Zo?!!!! Wooohoooo!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Crafty Cat 3/30/2019 8:29 AMMany North Americans have grown up eating meat which subsequently makes them eat more and their children eating it as well. Also we farm more meat here than many other continents with all the land and developing we have here. North Americans eat way more meat than we need to, I think that most of them don't really know the problems they are causing. If everyone in this world was educated how eating lots of meat causes pollution, then they would probably be eating less meat. Most North Americans enjoy eating meat, so much, that they incorporate it into their everyday lives, but if they could just skip one or two days of meat, it could make a huge impact. -
Crafty Cat 3/29/2019 8:09 PMI joined this challenge because my mom recommended it to me. I believe this is great how we all come together to pretty much do school outside of school. But in the greatest way possible. Helping our world change just by the small little things we do-
