As part of Earth Week I signed up for a cleanup in my neighbourhood, it is tomorrow and I can’t wait!

I am so thankful for this challenge! I try my best to do my part, this challenge has made me thing even MORE outside the box. I signed up for a local organic food box, I visited my first ever zero waste store (which I cried in because this is the future and how we will save the planet), I challenged myself to buy better, and will continue to.

What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

Plug the sink when doing dishes, reuse water as much as possible. Collect rain water to use for gardening and plants!

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Chiara Elliott's avatar
    Chiara Elliott 4/24/2019 7:53 PM
My concern is that people just don’t care! They continue day to day life and either don’t know or or unbothered by this because they “won’t live to see the damage”. People need to get informed now, workplaces and cities need to have mandatory compost bins, large companies need to stop making plastics and switch to bioplastics or compostable materials. This is a state of emergency we need to act now to save the planet we live on.

I’m very excited about how my fridge is looking! I have been trying not to use any plastic, for the most part it is the bottles that are plastic (or wrap for cheese)! Lots of fresh produce from local places, including cheese, eggs and milk!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons?

    Chiara Elliott's avatar
    Chiara Elliott 4/23/2019 2:34 PM
Having regenerative agriculture will save space on farms, and help our CO2 emissions. We need to start doing better for our planet, and putting less chemicals into our planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Chiara Elliott's avatar
    Chiara Elliott 4/23/2019 2:29 PM
I currently am still eating eggs, dairy, chocolate and occasional meat products. I know the negative aspects of palm oil and have cut out companies I know that use it. I love chocolate, so that will be the hardest to cut out of my diet, buying from companies I know are ethical will be my new source (when I’m craving). I do buy local dairy, eggs, and meat so have been doing my part to have a more positive impact. I try to buy local as much as possible, I know where the produce comes from and can link a face to the product.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Chiara Elliott's avatar
    Chiara Elliott 4/23/2019 2:21 PM
I had never heard of silvopasture until now. It makes so much more sense for farmers to have silvopastures, areas for cows to have shade with trees and having livestock with regular produce seems a lot less time consuming.
