How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Danaika Desir 4/24/2019 9:10 PM
A place with good environmental quality is a place where  the community works together  to make sure that they don't  do things that will harm the environment but  things that will help the environment. Hence I feel that  good environmental quality  will increase my sense of community since I will always  have to work with my community to keep it that way.

Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Danaika Desir's avatar

I never heard of it before. It's main advantage is that it increases farmland utilization, many products can be grown on the same acreage .

How are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?

    Danaika Desir's avatar
    Danaika Desir 4/24/2019 8:59 PM
Those issues lead to toxic substances that when inhaled by human beings increases their chances to develop certain diseases. This is a social issue and a health issue because it is harmful to the well beings of living things. I am a human beings and this substances are bad for me too so getting rid of them is important to me.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Danaika Desir's avatar
    Danaika Desir 4/24/2019 8:49 PM
It allows me to reduce waste. Before I use to think that the food was bad if the sell by date or the best by date  took place. Now I  know that  i can eat the food until its use by date.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Danaika Desir's avatar
    Danaika Desir 4/24/2019 8:46 PM
My family always taught me how  important it is is to  protect the environment . Growing up, my parents  always made sure that I  know to stand up and speak out for everything that I believe in. They also taught me how to use sustainable energy methods such as solar power energy and how important it is.  I can use both the knowledge and the strength and passion that my family gave me to address energy issues.

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Danaika Desir's avatar
    Danaika Desir 4/24/2019 8:41 PM
A sustainable community to  me is one where  people choose  to walk  or use their bikes as their most common form of transportation and carpool when a car is the only option. A sustainable community would be one where most vehicles use solar or wind generated electricity. A place where farms do not use  petroleum, chemical based fertilizers and herbicides. A place where the air and the water is clean, where the soils and the food are healthy . Finally a place where this is minimum  if any  waste.
