  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Give a Microloan
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?

I believe this occurs because in many cultures it is the women who are in charge of maintaining the household and the family. Because it takes a village to raise children, their lives are directly impacted and improved by a better community.

Just finished my last run on the Fanno Creek trail during the EcoChallenge. I feel so blessed that I have such a beautiful well maintained path so close by.

I've always thought that family planning is important, however until doing more research I did not realize how much correlation there is to family planning and climate change.

    Food Contact your Elected Officials
Do you have any personal connections to a farm or farmland? If so, what are they? What feelings are evoked for you when thinking about declining farmland?

Personally I don't have  a direct connection to farms or farmland, however I do live on the shared planet and consume the provided food. With population growth and climate change it is important to have properly allocated farmland, using farming techniques that not only improve current yields but allow for continuous usage overtime.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I go for a morning walk each morning with my dogs, as well as most days I go for a run during lunch. During our morning walks, I notice that there is no waste bins along the path, nor is it lit. Having these two would make the walk more enjoyable, especially since we often walk before the sun rise.

    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

    Jess Earl's avatar
    Jess Earl 4/19/2019 2:29 PM
I believe that North Americans eat more meat because we can. Many "American" dishes include meat. There is the space to produce meat, people can afford to raise and/or purchase meat.

The United States barely out eats Australia, and Lexembourg still beats us for annual meat consumption.

    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

Yes, I watched a TEDTalk about the subject a few years ago. The overall ROI is increased. The process improves the soil which in turn eliminates the need for fertilizers. This on combination with having different bloom seasons really helps the bees. If not for the ROI, do it for the Bees..
