I have learned so much participating in the EcoChallenge, and our family has made solid changes to help the environment. (We're composting!) I look forward to the next EcoChallenge and to stretch our contribution further!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

If public transportation were readily available I would use it. It would also help to have bike lanes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

We have always done a lot of meal planning. Leftover night helps as does freezing food. We also have our young child decide what goes on her plate (within reason! it can't all be pasta!)  which helps reduce food waste.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

Seeing images of animals with plastic in their digestive symptoms has been a major motivation to get as much plastic out of our house as possible.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Stacey Elia 4/24/2019 7:06 PM
Understanding what happens in a part of the world that I have never visited is overwhelming because at times it's hard to fully grasp.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

    Stacey Elia's avatar
    Stacey Elia 4/24/2019 7:03 PM
I think Americans are culturally conditioned to eat a lot of meat, and we also have the means in which to do so.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Help Girls Overcome Health Barriers
In what other ways could you help girls overcome health barriers to being able to attend school?

    Stacey Elia's avatar
    Stacey Elia 4/24/2019 7:00 PM
Having schools in rural areas, or insuring girls can arrive safely to school could help.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

Not leaving lights on, maximizing laundry loads could help reduce electricity usage.
