Any food choice affects my health and the health of the planet. I feel good supporting local farmers and try to buy organic when I can. I've paid more intention to what grains I eat and how they are grown.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Advocate For Greener Vehicles
How does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?

I commuted to school by bike. My Dad commuted by bike and bus to work for 30 years. My first car was the most efficient car I could find and so will our next one. A testimony can make a difference.  My sisters each have a Prius. Cost savings is a great incentive,

We discovered wonderful places to visit in our state. A family vacation is really about time spent together experiencing new places. We don't have to go far to do that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

My biggest concern is that we aren't doing enough fast enough to mitigate climate change. I take a deep breath and remember how many people and students are working for change and there is hope.

My biggest concern is even though individuals are trying, our U.S cities weren't designed for humans/environment. Its so frustrating that we can't snap our fingers and consolidate cities, get rid of parking lots, shrink our streets to make them pedestrian friendly, etc...I try to bike/walk places, but our cities are so spread out. I'm afraid of other developing countries following our dumb pattern and forcing car use. Check out Strong Towns if you haven't already, they advocate for a more efficient use of tax dollars and better designed cities!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Launch a Recycling Program
How can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?

    Mary Fitzgerald's avatar
    Mary Fitzgerald 4/24/2019 7:34 AM
The ecology class expanded the recycling at the middle school to include plastic bags.
