I am recycling daily calendar print outs for conference rooms.  The paper will be made into scratch pads for office staff to use.

Things enjoyable are the beautiful grounds surrounding our workplace.  The small urban park and nicely landscaped gardens give a sense of caring for the environment.  It is nice to hear the birds singing and bunnies hopping around.

When walking in the surrounding neighborhood of my work, there are blocks that do not have sidewalks.  This is important for those people who have disabilities.  There is also a section where you have to walk in a parking lot with a designated walking area; however, it is behind cars/trucks that are parked so they could back out at anytime.

It is so surprising to me, intelligent beings that we are working in a value based environment, that people do not pay attention to what it means to sort items for recycling, composting, and trash.  My mission in our office is to make a poster of those items commonly mis-sorted so people have a visual.

It is amazing how many high speed rails are in other parts of the world.  I do understand that traversing from New York to LA may not be ideal on rail...however, in the more densely populated urban areas, it makes sense...as in the Northwest.  Having one in the corridor from northern California up to Vancouver BC would be awesome.  Of course, locally, we just need to improve local commute possibilities so when people arrive on high speed rail...they have a way to get around.  Will be interesting to see where this goes...

Bus stop is looking awful again...so much trash around.  Metro bus is not emptying the trash bin they recently installed so that it is over flowing.  Am making a complaint to Metro today for a trash pickup.

What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

Plastic bags are regularly given for vegetable transport at grocery stores.  I have purchased reusable vegetable bags and/or take my own reusable container to the store.

Cleaned up area around the bus stop I frequent...felt really good and even better this morning when I arrived and didn't see all the cigarette butts on the ground (yes, I used plastic gloves).  I plan to continue a weekly clean-up.
