What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

To me, a sustainable community means one where we give back in equal amounts to what we take or where energy is never wasted.  The methane digester concept used the energy of food waste to produce usable energy for human/ industrial use.  The byproducts can then be used as fertilizer to create new food energy.  Great concept!  I think people's mentality needs to change to understand that our earth is not producing traditional forms of energy at the same rate that humans are using them....and that this energy is not an infinite resource!

Why is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?

Taking action on climate change is important because we only have one planet to live on.  It provides for us, so we should provide back to it.  Simple as that.  It is also important not to leave our problems to future generations to solve.

I didn't know what a "femme kit" was, but now I do.  What a great way to make it easier for girls to go to school and live their lives....and more environmentally friendly than other sanitary products like those we use in the U.S.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Besides smaller portions benefitting the environment, they will benefit the waistline and our pocketbooks!  Research shows that eating in moderation is a much healthier habit.

My uncle in Maine has a heat pump and when we visited on a hot day last summer, his house was very comfortable.  I've been meaning to look into them more and this was my chance.  I learned that there are several kinds with plusses and minuses to each.  Not sure which would work best for our house, so time to call my HVAC guys.

I just read about "sell by", "use by" and "best by" dates on food.  I always thought "use by" was a safety date...NOT!  I won't spoil (ha!) any more for you, but reading about it was interesting.
