REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Tina Hein 4/23/2019 2:27 PMI'd like to learn about how to reduce the amount of plastic I use on a daily basis. No need for plastic grocery bags, no need for plastic bags for each produce item either. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Express My SupportHow could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?
Tina Hein 4/19/2019 1:44 PMSidewalks provide a safe place for children to walk and play and bring people outdoors. People are more likely to socialize and interact if they are out walking on a sidewalk (rather than a street worried about cars).

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Advocate for High-Speed RailWhat are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?
Tina Hein 4/19/2019 1:39 PMI generally take a bus but biking is more ideal. Seattle has done a great job with accessible bike lanes - educating people and providing incentives could go a long way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Tina Hein 4/18/2019 3:57 PMSeattle's buses are frequent and reliable; however, if there are after work activities you are likely to just drive to downtown in order to be able to drive to the event. I have reached out to friends in order to create a car pool situation to avoid everyone bringing a car in to downtown (e.g. half of my weekly sailing team works downtown. Why not set up a car pool? More fun anyways). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Advocate for Forest ProtectionHigher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?
Tina Hein 4/18/2019 3:50 PMThis article discusses China's ban on accepting U.S. recycling materials - how some Chinese companies have moved to poor developing countries (countries that have much less regulation in place). https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/oct/05/huge-rise-us-plastic-waste-shipments-to-poor-countries-china-ban-thailand-malaysia-vietnam -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Tina Hein 4/16/2019 2:11 PMCommercialization and advertising and just plain habit. Perhaps not knowing that a vegetarian diet is just as satisfying. -
REFLECTION QUESTION
-
Tina Hein 4/12/2019 4:13 PMI am wondering why this is a one time option. Seems something folks could be doing every their day? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Tina Hein 4/04/2019 12:54 PMI noticed in whole foods last night how many new types of grains are being packaged and marketed that way. I mean, a small $2.00 bag of barley is now $4.00 with packaging? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Improve a Bus StopHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Tina Hein 4/03/2019 10:10 AMTidied up the area while waiting for bus this AM! We need bigger waste bins at Seattle bus stops!
