I can't believe this is the last day of the EcoChallenge. What a ride! I end feeling inspired and challenged to do more. Thanks for the experience.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Christine Hogue's avatar
    Christine Hogue 4/24/2019 5:54 AM
By learning about what other people are doing to slow climate change, participating in activities like this challenge and doing everything I can to do right by the planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Learn about Local Indigenous Practices
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

    Christine Hogue's avatar
    Christine Hogue 4/23/2019 4:24 PM
As my mom (one of my teammates on the HR Climate Coolers) pointed out, the Sami people of the Nordic Arctic have done an amazing job at managing land. Their ability to adapt to environmental change is based on a deep understanding of the land, coupled with traditional knowledge. The main thing we can apply is developing a symbiotic relationship with the land.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2. What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Christine Hogue's avatar
    Christine Hogue 4/23/2019 5:15 AM
Stay local, use telecommute options, find ways to offset carbon if you really need to travel.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Christine Hogue's avatar
    Christine Hogue 4/22/2019 8:59 AM
Theory is fine, but I am most motivated by seeing things in action. So what inspires me most is often seeing, reading and learning how other people are making a difference on energy issues.

I’ve seen (and agreed with) a common theme from from many EcoChallenge participants - I am already doing many of the recommended actions. But the EC has been invaluable about highlighting other simple actions I can take to slow climate change. Thank you!

The most important thing we can do is to make a virtual participants feel welcome and included. Make sure were including them in discussions and encouraging their feedback.
