I think single-use plastics and our culture's consumerism are big issues affecting the environment. Single-use plastics and plastic packaging is a huge issue, and as society continues to buy new things rather than reuse, plastic and packaging waste will continue to grow.

After the challenge is over, I plan to continue to cut down on my meat consumption. I've done pretty good at sticking to chicken and turkey, and have found myself choosing more vegetarian or fish options more frequently. I'll keep working at it!

It was interesting to read about how Kenyan farmers are managing their crops when faced with constant drought - dividing their land up to farm different types of crops and forming a support group of fellow farmers to work on collective projects. Lots of great strategies that I'm sure are applicable all over.

Especially this past winter, I noticed my windows were quite drafty. I'm hoping that by finding someone to help me figure out what needs to be weatherized (or whether I need a new window in one particular place), I can lower my energy use this summer as well as into next winter. I try to be energy conscious in other ways (keeping my thermostats low in the winter, and high in the summer), keeping lights off, unplugging unnecessary devices. Improving the efficiency of my windows will hopefully make that even better!

Among the articles I read, I found one about how LA is working towards more public transportation fascinating. I knew LA used to have a pretty thorough and comprehensive bus and train system, but didn't realize all the work that is going into trying to extend the lines. Pretty interesting!

Eliminating palm oil is going to be tough. I didn't think to check the ingredients before I ate my protein bar this afternoon, but there's palm oil in there... I'll have to look long and hard at ingredients lists! And become more familiar with palm oil's other aliases...

Looking forward to taking action this month! There are some great activities up here, and lots of good information about Drawdown strategies. I hope everyone takes some time to check them out.
