REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 9:09 PMThe more we are aware of our environmental impact and how we can change our consumption and repurposing of waste the easier it becomes just part of a daily routine. It makes me feel prideful in knowing that by implementing new techniques I am worker towards a better future -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Install a Toilet BankHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 9:02 PMBy preparing for changing water situations my household will become more resilient since there is less a sense of crisis. The better we plan the less problems we face in the future -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Support Microgeneration in Low Income CountriesHow can micro energy solutions reduce inequities? Why is this important to you?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:58 PMin places around the world their are many gender inequities when it comes to agriculture and sustainability. As time goes on I want to see more projects that are geared toward leveling the gaps and creating funding for woman run and operated solutions -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Support Indigenous Peoples' Land ManagementIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:54 PMBalance is crucial in understanding better sustainability because we as a human race have become greedy in what we take from the earth without being as conscious about what we are giving back! Now more than ever it is fundamental that we release the damage we are causing and work for a better sustainable future -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:46 PMThis one was easy as pie oh boy!!! I am so excited because now I can control what happens in my house right from my phone which makes sure that I am always on top of maximizing energy efficiency -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:44 PMI am learning the benefits of how we heat and cool our homes and how most of the time we can improve energy consumption just by spending an extra month or so a year just by keeping the air conditioning off and the windows open a little longer -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Try CarpoolingList some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:37 PMI started going to the market with my friend and doing a combined produce shop and omg! Tuesdays are now the days that we get all that done and spend time planning recipes together. Its a win win win, social interaction, carpooling, and learning to minimize food waste :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Test Drive an Electric BikeHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:34 PMAfter trying an electric bike... I find your average bike easier to maneuver (I crashed a lot) That being said if you are thinking of traveling somewhere down the block or a mile or two over, biking and walking just made me feel so much better! I felt great getting in some extra exercise and enjoying nature rather than just zipping somewhere in my car. The journey can really be better than the destination even if its a short one -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Fund Family PlanningWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:30 PMFor a long time men have been in control of what women do with their bodies and that NEEDS TO CHANGE. Women need to be respected and have their voices heard. The future should not be determined by one group especially when it comes to family planning and reproduction -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?
Lindsay Miller 4/24/2019 8:25 PMGet curious about shopping small! There are so many options if you take the time to look into locally run businesses and how they have a much better ethical footprint rather than big business, oh and something I found even more beneficial about supporting women specifically? they seem to have much more knowledge about the products and ideas they sell! when asked a small shop owner why she believes this was, she replied that she often feels the need to prove herself in male dominated fields such as business entrepreneurship
