Martina Reilly 4/22/2019 5:55 PMHappy earth day! Such a beautiful day it was...I only wish I could spend more time outside! Days like this I wish we had operable windows in the office... -
Martina Reilly 4/19/2019 3:31 PMGot my tumbler compost bin! Hoping to find time this weekend to put it together. -
Martina Reilly 4/18/2019 3:55 AMWith my research on women owned businesses I learned that BFPE international is 100% women owned and located here in Maryland! Cool stuff. -
Martina Reilly 4/16/2019 3:56 PMBeen thinking a lot about the fire at Notre Dame. The called the nave “the forest” because supposedly it took a forest of trees to build it. Now it’s gone. There are plans to rebuild and I wonder if they will do it in wood or steel. What material will stand the new test of time? What is the embodied energy involved in rebuilding with each scenario? Regardless of how they rebuild, it will be a monumental task! -
Martina Reilly 4/13/2019 8:01 AMInstalled my toilet bank today; probably one of the easiest “green” things I’ve done so far... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Install a Toilet BankHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Martina Reilly 4/13/2019 8:00 AMFinding ways to mitigate water on site is crucial for every property. We are looking into planting super absorbent plants (like blueberry bushes) to help soak up water in our yard.-
Rebecca Berggren 4/15/2019 5:37 AMElderberry is also great one to plant in wet areas. It's a native here in NC and can provide berries for the birds, jams and tonics.

Martina Reilly 4/08/2019 5:27 PMHad a project charrette today where the new design direction is to do affordable housing, get historic tax credits, and go near net zero. Lots of challenges ahead, but I’m excited to take them on! It’s hard to find strategies that support green, historic and affordable. The biggest thing I can think of that applies to all three is taking advantage of natural daylight. Any other thoughts/ recommendations? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Martina Reilly 4/07/2019 10:45 AMCould not believe how hot the incandescent bulb got...looking forward to saving energy with my new LED bulbs! -
Martina Reilly 4/06/2019 12:39 PMI won these inspirational books in a raffle at the Energy Summit I attended this week. Which should I read first?-
