I feel excited that so many more people in our community have participated this year.  My mother even join and just said to me that she felt bad she wasn't filling out so many parts of the challenge but she read them and realized that she was doing a lot of the suggestions already.  Im sure that why I am also doing so much.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/21/2019 10:50 AM
Yes, I had heard about it before because it is mentioned in a book I read and also in a movie I saw.  Food Nation maybe.  It is so much better to keep the trees and pasture more natural for the animals and also for the farm.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Choose Recycled Paper
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2019 9:48 AM
We can try to use less paper completely.  Most faculty members at school do not have their students print out assignments any more.  They use services online like Turn it In.
which saves paper and also helps with research  and academic honesty.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
How do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2019 9:47 AM
I feel that more people are aware of what is happening and I know that I am trying to do my part.  I try in so many ways to spread the word about climate change and everything that is happening.  It makes me feel better to be doing something about trying to change people's attitudes and ways.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Fix Leaky Faucets
What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2019 9:45 AM
We have rain barrels in five different locations in our yard.  We use this water collected for watering the plants and veggies and also to use for the chickens.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2019 9:38 AM
I learned about a new type of rice and way to plant it in Bangladesh so that the effects of Climate Change are not completely ruining their soil.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation Rooftop Solar Consultation
Identify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2019 9:36 AM
Our modern human society is far too reliant on fossil fuels in general.  We need to continue the conversation to keep adding new alternative energy sources to the main stream of people's lives.

I am having a great time working on this eco challenge again this year.  Each morning I check in and read about different things that are happening and reading about new ideas that we can do in our community. I wish there was an app. for the Drawndown eco challenge.  Maybe next year someone can create one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Express My Support
How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/17/2019 4:20 AM
It would be great if more people walked to stores and places in town then they could see different things along the road that they all miss when they drive by quickly.  I think the roads would be cleaner and people would appreciate what we have.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Plan to Insulate
What are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/17/2019 4:19 AM
If everyone made a small effort to change their habits in their own homes then we would be on the way to creating a more sustainable community.  We should all model for others who do not take the time to learn about alternative energy and efficiency.
