  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

More benefits from this could be eating healthier and not eating too much of one thing. This could maybe even help expand your diet if you fit more variety on a plate
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

To reduce I can try buying products( if I need to buy something) with less packaging. To reuse obviously reuse plastic water bottles and food containers, which we sometimes use as lunch container. I can also repurpose other items to carry items, and refuse to use excess waste.

List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

Whenever i'm out places on the weekend the rest of my family usually is, either at soccer, or running errands so I could ask to get picked up while someone is on their way back.

How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

Trimet is a very helpful part of transportation in portland, this is a very easy action to fill because i can take the bus to my house every day, within a block of it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

Meat is typically the main american stereotype and it makes sense, because we use for example approximately 9 billion chickens a year for food. For me to eat a vegan meal a day is not too hard, my mom is vegan so that takes care of half of it, then i need to make a conscious effort to eliminate milk or eggs from another meal

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Sell by dates are mainly for the store to tell when the product should be sold by. Best by dates are supposed to be by when the product is supposed to be at its "freshest". Use by is typically like an expired note, except these can vary widely. The date the food is good by can vary on the temperature of storage and even how the food was processed. A lot of food doesn't even make it to stores because it doesn't pass standards due to aesthetics, even misshapen and foods with tiny brown spots will be left on the ground when picked.  For milk one of the best ways to tell when it's bad is by smelling it because that smell is caused by lactic acids from the milk from bacteria that could have passed through pasteurization.
