Tim Seastedt 4/23/2019 6:48 AMDid an Earth Day event with Legacy HS students yesterday. An energetic, well-informed bunch of students. Activities like that give me hope. -
Tim Seastedt 4/22/2019 6:34 AMI give up....you can't load images into these posts. The point is there's a strong link between ecosystem sustainability and human well-being. Google Community Food Share at https://communityfoodshare.org/-
Karen Hollweg 4/22/2019 2:56 PMI found their Spring 2019 newsletter. Cool graphic ! I can see a class of any age doing an almost limitless variety of these kinds of graphics based on EcoChallenge involvement !

Tim Seastedt 4/22/2019 6:29 AMGot this message from Community Food Share today. Clearly a partner in global sustainability. -
Tim Seastedt 4/21/2019 4:59 AMSomewhat ironically, our project yesterday involved restoring a 'novel ecosystem', an artificial wetland and lake area that once was mixed grass prairie. Given that the prairie was first plowed under long ago, one can argue that the novel ecosystem now provides a number of conservation and ecosystem services that previously - even when the prairie was present - did not exist.
The group was read an 'arbor day message' that acknowledged tree services that we now recognize as contributing to climate change mitigation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons?
Tim Seastedt 4/21/2019 4:55 AMFood production is an ecosystem service, but it can come with unitended consequences that amount to ecosystem 'disservices'. Achieving the goal of one service while being neutral or enhancing other services (such as carbon sequestration) is the ongoing challenge. -
Tim Seastedt 4/20/2019 4:47 AMToday we meet with some HS students and family and do a 'riparian enhancement' around a nature preserve. We'll see if the students can relate this to climate change issues.-
Karen Hollweg 4/20/2019 9:05 PMInteresting, Tim. Where's the preserve? and what connections did they think of?

Tim Seastedt 4/14/2019 5:13 AMOut to plant some willows into the 'new' St. Vrain floodplain.. Will ponder what 'resilience' means under climate change drivers. -
Tim Seastedt 4/13/2019 5:20 AMSpent yesterday with a group of environmental science students from CSU and CU. Great to hear about some of their projects, many of which involve sustainability questions. -
Tim Seastedt 4/11/2019 4:02 PMDoing a riparian restoration project tomorrow. I just hope what we plant erases the carbon plume we create getting there.
