Karina Thygesen 4/20/2019 8:19 AMHere's what happens to e-waste in Canada. I think reducing is the most important of the 3 R's.

Kasia Stepien 4/23/2019 9:46 PMYes yes yes to consuming less! I agree it's the most important of the 3 R's. -
Celia Laval 4/20/2019 9:27 AMAbsolutely, the no-waste people are inspiring! And my hero Greta Thunberg is all about eating vegan, no flying, and no buying new stuff. It's a good wake up!

good read about micro plastics in clothes-
Kasia Stepien 4/15/2019 9:33 PMGood point Karina... there are lots of ways microplastics end up in our waters.
Heather, I will pick up a guppyfriend bag for you if they have any! I'm staying quite close to their Vancouver store. And I'd love to get in touch with the person who has a built in filter... can you put us in touch by email? -
Heather Kennedy-MacNeill 4/15/2019 11:15 AMThat was a good article Karina - thanks...especially re: washing less etc. And Kasia, if you could pick up one of those bags, it would be great although when I went to the Patagonia website, they were out of stock so hopefully Vancouver store has some. Also I saw one of those big filters at somebody’s house this week - it was about $180 made in the Maritimes. It looked like a big deal to connect and I think you’d have to get a plumber. If you want the contact # of the person who has the filter, I’ll send it to you. He was keen to show it off! -
Karina Thygesen 4/15/2019 8:26 AMEven if the microfibers go in the trash, they end up in the landfill and could wash into the water system that way. It's hard because microfiber clothes are great in some ways. -
Kasia Stepien 4/15/2019 8:22 AMThank you Karina for sharing that! I've been using a GUPPYFRIEND laundry bag for almost a year now. It's quite easy to use, but sometimes I forget, so I'd love to create a filter like the man in the article did!
If anyone is wants to start filtering the microplastics in their laundry, you can get a laundry bag through Patagonia:
https://www.patagonia.ca/product/guppyfriend-washing-bag/O2191.html?dwvar_O2191_color=000&cgid=luggage-gear-care#start=1
Also, I'll be in Vancouver this week, and could pick some up at the Patagonia store if anyone wants one and would like to skip the shipping costs and extra packaging!
