Today's the last day! I wish I'd been more organized this time around, and kept up with tracking and posting.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I really need to start using re-usable bags for shopping. The past year I've been telling cashiers to skip the bag and I'll carry things out if my shopping is enough to carry in two arms. I own re-usable bags, but always forget to bring them. Other than that: I love repurposing things. I'm turning old CD's into jewelry, dance belts, wind-chimes, etc.

Alternate commute options haven't been very successful for me so far (I've tried for years). What takes me 15 minutes driving takes 1 hour 15 minutes by bus, and my schedule is too early for the ride-share bus, and I tend to stay late fairly often and it's not fair to others. But I did talk a friend into carpooling to a class in Rosalia on Sunday. I likely won't be doing any more carpooling during the challenge, but one day is better than none.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

The main grocery store I shop at is actually only a block away from home. I often stop on my way home, but should just start walking. Especially during the warmer months.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

I've not researched this a lot, but I know there are bamboo flooring options available, and a week or two ago I bought a bamboo toothbrush at Huckleberry's inside Rosauer's in Spokane Valley. I've been reading about them, and looking online, but put off buying one. I was surprised to run into them locally while shopping for other products.

I wasted a lot of food on Saturday. Too tired, too busy, and didn't think when I ordered (ate out because I was running all day), and ordered food I didn't really want to eat, and wasn't hungry enough to finish.

Breakfast and lunch were both meatless today. Coincidence, not planned this time. But every bit helps!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Shawna Troyer's avatar
    Shawna Troyer 4/03/2019 1:00 PM
The responsible answer would be paying off debt, especially student loans. But if I were able to save this money - I'd use most of it for travel.
