Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.

I will take a walk for 30 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Anna Waggoner 4/24/2019 7:55 AMFound I waste some food in Refrigerator, but eat most of what I serve. Mom was picky about us eating all we took. Also have 4 sisters and a brother--food was gone if you didn't eat around our house. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Anna Waggoner 4/24/2019 7:47 AMI remember changing from Incandescent to Fluorescent! Now changed from Fluorescent to LED. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Anna Waggoner 4/23/2019 9:27 AMAs a diabetic, it is beneficial to eat smaller portions more frequently thru the day to balance out blood sugars. It also helps with weigh loss. -
Anna Waggoner 4/04/2019 6:54 AMUp and at the world today! Looking into how to compost effectively. Always wanted to do this. Maybe this is the little push that I needed to get that done. Have a great day -
