  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

No wasted food during this Drawdown challenge.  I honestly think our $lost to wasted food annually is less than $50.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

It’s traditional & customary as well as being an outcome of our profligate consumption patterns I’m part of the baby boomer generation and I think this pattern can be broken by the millennial generation (my kids).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I started buying renewable energy credits in 2004 from PNM for 90% of our electricity consumption.  In late June 2009 our 2.875 kW DC solar system became grid connected and ever since we’ve been meeting over 95% of our annual electrical consumption with solar PV, with the balance offset by RECs.  Our system has generated over 41,000 kWhs since June 2009.
