Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Aside from environmental benefits eating smaller portions can help reduce the amount of obesity we have in America, and can also prevent large amounts of food waste. Many under developed countries are not fortunate enough to be able to fill their plates to the max. If we are able to manage our portion sizes we can decrease the amount of food we are wasting.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I frequently drive to and from campus monday through thurdsay. On these days I can start carpooling with the other girls in my house. There are 5 of us that live together so we can take turns driving to school in the morning.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

I come from a very small town in CT where we do not have any form of public transportation. We have no public busses that run through, an no train stations under an hour away. The way I traveled was always by car. After moving to NJ for school the access to public transportation is easy.  Taking the train to and from various cities, and the bus for local trips is an easy task. Public transit allows for more people to get from point a to point b and saves the amount of damage many cars do to this planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

When I was planting these tree it gave me a moment to relax and really appreciate the world around me. Being outside on a warm day planting new trees, and flowers around my house with my mom allowed us both to connect with the earth and be there with each other to share the moment.

This past few weeks I carpooled with friends and neighbors to and from school. Not only was I helping the environment but I was able to make new friends with my neighbors on the way to campus.
