If planting trees is something you vowed to do, you can speak to me or Mr. OTool about the community service opportunities we have through school that relate to park management and street-tree care. Each spring we go and plant and take care of street trees - it's a fun day! Join us next time :)

Teammate Nina brought the idea of screening a documentary about women's health and rights my attention. We will meet to discuss planning a screening at school, perhaps cohosted with the Gender Equity club (maybe followed by a brief panel on how gender equity connects to climate change). If you're interested in planning with us, send me an email.

Newtown Creek WWTF offers public tours to learn about wastewater treatment in our city. They discuss methane digesters and how NYC is going green. Free and open to all. May sound icky, but it's pretty cool. SIMS is a recycling center in Queens that also offers free tours. If you want to visit these places, let me know and we can arrange it...

Remember, if anyone is interested in volunteering to clean Plumb Beach in the Jamaica Bay wetlands, there is a date coming up. We can arrange transportation and go as a group! Wetlands create buffers for hurricanes, provide nurseries for fish, promote essential biogeochemical processes, filter air and water acting as the lungs of the Earth, and...

We all know about recycling, and we know about plastics in the ocean, but sometimes it’s hard to totally cut out single-use plastics. For me, my daily contact lenses created a lot of plastic waste that’s not recyclable. While I do wear my glasses more frequently now, I also found TerraCycle! They have a collection bin at my optometrists office....

Hi team! I just switch my apartments electricity from natural gas to wind! My monthly bill will be slightly higher, but not as much as you may think. ConEd offers opportunities to purchase your electricity through an ESCO, and go renewable, while still getting reliable electricity through the existing grid! Talk to your parents about switching!

When you book flights with American, Delta, Virgin, or United, an offer to purchase carbon offsets to balance the emissions of your flight pops up automatically. Easy-peasy!

When researching women-owned businesses, particularly in our area, I easily came across fashion and beauty businesses. I dug a little deeper to find women in executive positions in fortune 500 companies. After digging even deeper, I found a good list of businesses, in NYC and other places I frequently visit (Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Tucson,...

Hi Team! One of the items I chose was to work on was wetland restoration. On May 18th I will be volunteering with NYC H2O at Plumb Beach (in BK). If you'd like to join let me know and I'll send you the link. It's challenging to access that particular beach via public transit, so we can arrange transportation together (yay carpooling!). **Great...
