  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

Wasting water is of upmost concern to me regarding food waste. I'm from California, where a lack of fresh water is an issue for farmers, residents, and wildlife alike.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I'd want this money to be used to help local organic farmers expand their businesses.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

To incorporate other "R's" I could refuse plastic bags when shopping, reduce waste, and repair windows and faucets in my apartment to make them more efficient. All of these actions are simple to implement into my everyday life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Serving smaller portions diminishes food waste. So much food in the restaurant industry is thrown out because serving portions are so large and people can't finish their meals.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Buildings and Cities
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

With spring approaching, I have noticed plant beginning to bud.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

The oversupply of poultry is one reason people in North America eat more meat than other countries.
