REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Alissa Aparicio 4/24/2019 11:28 AMI try to share stories and news articles that inform the public of what's happening with our environment. I am continually working on my own part knowing that's where change starts first. I know that my little part makes a difference and hope to inspire others to start in small ways as well. It makes it seem less daunting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Alissa Aparicio 4/23/2019 3:43 PMI am going to look into replacing fluorescent tube bulbs with LED options in my pole barn! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Alissa Aparicio 4/23/2019 3:42 PMI am working at purging YEARS of inherited and personal clutter. I look forward to having more space and time for other things, being organized so I don't buy more than I need, and having the space for more creative pursuits. ART over stuff is my goal! =) -
Alissa Aparicio 4/22/2019 3:49 PMHAPPY EARTH DAY TEAM SEEDS!!! We are doing amazing! Thank you for all your hard work. Don't forget to check off any actions that you did over the weekend. Can you believe we only have 3 days left? Let's finish strong!
Some of our elementary and middle school Seedlings worked hard on the Clean Energy Art Challenge today while the other group picked up trash outside of the school. I am proud of our kiddos for making Earth Day amazing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Alissa Aparicio 4/17/2019 3:32 PMWe are a younger country and our history of living off the land meant that meat was a food source for survival. Then came the cattle industry with rich cattle barons promoting their product. It is now a part of our culture, to do many things in excess including eating meat for every meal. Instant gratification, feeding our issues with food and cheap fast food all contribute to our declining health. Meat and it's processing are just a part of it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Alissa Aparicio 4/15/2019 10:08 AMI am putting more things into the recycle bin and also looking at what ways I can change my purchasing habits to include less waste. Our range of plastic recycling is limited so you have to get creative with the remainder of your waste.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Alissa Aparicio 4/15/2019 10:05 AMMy family farm sits at a high point in the county. We have plenty of wind, lots of property and a situated close to main power lines. I have been wanting to research various wind generation systems to see what is the feasibility of putting one in. I know there has been in interest in the larger wind turbine systems but wanted to see if a smaller system would work to at least offset some of the electrical costs. It is definitely worth further investigation! -
