I had not heard of biomass technology but it is super cool. It gets rid of dead plants that were gonna be disposed of anyway. I really wish that more farmers used this and that we would replace gas heating with this.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

You can eat products that make a point to grow their resources on land that was not formerly a peat bog. Some such products to reduce consumption of would be palm oil, coffee and chocolate.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

It would be awesome to put them on top of buildings, in parks, and in fields that have nothing in them or crops in them. Specific places like the courthouses, the BB&T building and school rooftops.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Judah Barak 4/12/2019 11:44 AM
I am continuously thinking about how my actions and how they are affecting the environment. It feels overwhelming to think about how to stop big corporations that are only interested in money and care about the environment. The solutions that draw down give make feel like something good can be done and not like all is lost.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Judah Barak's avatar
    Judah Barak 4/11/2019 12:10 PM
My diet is currently involved with coffee and other foods that have to do with palm oil. I also eat a lot of meat. I am gonna start limiting my meet consumption and checking labels on my food.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Judah Barak's avatar
    Judah Barak 4/09/2019 11:35 AM
I had never heard the term before. I think the biggest advantage is how it is better for the animals. They look like they have a happier life around trees.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Judah Barak's avatar
    Judah Barak 4/05/2019 11:36 AM
I can advocate for Geo thermal energy on a state wide level and ask for tax incentives to be implemented.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Judah Barak's avatar
    Judah Barak 4/05/2019 11:11 AM
I want to spending money on the people I love and on percussion instruments/ implements.

As far as plastics go i'm concerned that we are filling up the world with things that are never gonna go away and are ugly rather than beautiful things like flowers.
