Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

We have built a maker space in our basement for our kids. They constantly pull things from our recycling to use in the maker space.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Fix Leaky Faucets
What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

    Susan Bardel's avatar

    Shorter showers

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Susan Bardel's avatar
    Susan Bardel 4/24/2019 5:15 PM
A sustainable community is one in which neighbors are friends with neighbors and a sense of trust and safety is inherent in your day to day. In order for this to happen people will need to learn to communicate without feeling challenged and to think about the whole instead of just the self.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Make School More Affordable
Why is it important that girls have equal access to education in order to reduce our global greenhouse gas emissions?

    Susan Bardel's avatar
    Susan Bardel 4/24/2019 5:04 PM
Every person needs to be educated in the effects our daily actions have on our environment. Without access to proper education girls cannot be part of the solution.

Also the percentage of girls plus the percentage of boys will make a great impact into this activity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Local Indigenous Practices
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

    Susan Bardel's avatar
    Susan Bardel 4/23/2019 2:15 PM
The talk we had was more about the impact indigenous people had to the area. We heard a lot about the importance of what were called fire islands. Many of our east coast cities grew in locations important to local tribes. They all have  a river with a waterfall, an island, a tributary, and important trails leading to and away. It was very interesting and will lend itself to interesting conversations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

I love planting trees. Every year for Mother’s Day and my birthday I get 2 new trees. Usually I get flower trees which help the bees too.

Buying things for kids’  Easter baskets today and found myself thinking hard about what to buy. Usually put toys and trinkets but I know they usually end up being a one time thing and eventually would end up in the landfill. Decided against buying them!

Sometimes I have to buy things for the Easter Bunny to put in your basket. He doesn’t always know what you’d like.

How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

It aligns with our mission of being stewards of the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

    Losing weight to be healthier.
