I love the regular check-ins and accountability pieces. I also appreciate being able to see the direct impact our choices make. I'm feeling really inspired to continue this learning and this initiative moving forward.

I knew women made a significant impact on their communities, but having a few more stats to share is really helpful. I've also shared the TED Talk a few times, and definitely intend on speaking more about the initiatives Lush takes part in that support women all around the globe.

I'm admittedly very paranoid about food, lol. This research was very reassuring. Now I know to look for use by vs sell by, and to rely on my nose and eyes and sense of taste before I toss something.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Support Women-Owned Businesses
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?

Even locally, I think we can all do a better job of supporting women. I've been trying to attend more events hosted by/featuring female entrepreneurs. It's exciting to see the headway women are making in this world, and I'm passionate about supporting their endeavours.

In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

Ignorance is bliss. As a society we're all too willing to turn a blind eye to the convenient issues.

Well, my mother "Liked" my posts, so I'm going to make her donate ;)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Social Justice Fund Family Planning
When family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?

Because motherhood should be a choice, and for far too long men have been in charge of women's bodies. When women- especially women from lower income countries- are forced to become mothers, they have no choice but to abandon their other endeavours, and this has an impact on every facet of their life, and that impact extends to their communities.

Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

I donated to both the Nature Conservancy in the US as well as the Nature Conservancy in Canada! It was so easy and I'm going to add them both into my rotation for regular donations.

In response to the q...I believe that balance is important to sustainability because in order for any relationship to remain healthy, in order for any relationship to continue to flourish, a reciprocal give and take is necessary. It's respectful, and I believe this mentality applies to our relationship with the earth as well. We need to give back as much (if not more) than we take, and never take to the detriment of the one who has something to offer us.

What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

I learned a lot. I learned even more about the struggles Indigenous people are forced to contend with, which is going to make me even more determined to prioritize Indigenous rights and voices in the way that I vote.

In the end I happened upon a list of tourism businesses owned and operated by Indigenous stewards. I've wanted to partake in nature tours that don't negatively impact the environment ever since I moved here, and I'm so excited to plan a tour in the Fall, so I can learn about this Province from the people it has always belonged to.
