REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Stacey Carpenter 4/09/2019 7:32 PMI can reduce my usage of bags at shops by remembering to bring reusable shopping bags everywhere. Opting for "naked" products also allows me to reduce the amount of plastic that I use. I can repurpose glass bottles and jars to serve other storage functions around the house. Doing these other things makes me feel more optimistic and positive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Stacey Carpenter 4/09/2019 7:30 PMI would rather prioritize my health -- physical and mental -- over the material things in my life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Stacey Carpenter 4/09/2019 7:29 PMDepending on the product bamboo alternatives may be readily available. As an alternative to wood, bamboo is generally available. As an alternative to cotton like in fabrics, hemp is usually more readily available. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Stacey Carpenter 4/09/2019 7:27 PMI think that culturally, people in North America are raised with a notion that meat is an essential part of every meal in order for it to be filling and satisfying. The notion that meat was an important part of a meal came after the Great Depression when families were finally able to afford to include meat in their meals again. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Stacey Carpenter 4/09/2019 7:24 PMEating smaller portions is -- for most fortunate individuals -- better for our bodies and our overall health by reducing on overeating. Smaller portions also mean that because less food will be wasted, more can be saved for another night, ultimately reducing your grocery spending.
