A proven way to overcome many systemic barriers to a woman’s success has been increased participation by women in local, regional and national legislation as empowered change agents.
Green Roofs can improve storm water management by reducing runoff and improving water quality, conserve energy, mitigate the urban heat island, increase longevity of roofing membranes, reduce noise and air pollution, increase urban biodiversity by providing habitat for wildlife, provide space for urban agriculture, provide a more aesthetically pleasing and healthy environment to work and live, and improve return on investment compared to traditional roofs.
Maitreya and I decided to to take action today and clean the bus stop in Rosendale. The good news, there was not a lot of trash to pick up. The bad news...... this bag is mostly filled with cigarette butts. The filters on cigarettes – four-fifths of all cigarettes have them – are made of cellulose acetate, a form of plastic that is very slow to degrade in the environment. A typical cigarette butt can take anywhere from 18 months to 10 years to decompose, depending on conditions.
This was a really interesting video about Methane.
"Energy Conservation on the Farm at the Huls Dairy" provides information about the operation of Montana's first methane digester for a dairy operation. The project was a huge success and is currently producing enough power to run the entire dairy operation and one home. The digesters are located at the Huls Dairy Farm in Corvallis, Montana. The video shows the digesters at work using the methane gasses to produce energy. The video also explains other benefits from the installation of the digesters including commercial composting, fuel, fertilizer, and irrigation savings.
Wind turbines are rapidly becoming more efficient and less expensive, making them competitive with or less costly than electricity generated by coal-fired power plants. Experts estimate that within the next ten years, wind energy will become the least expensive source of electricity. And, they can be built to power a single home or an entire island, and they have small footprints only occupying a small fraction of the land they sit on.
