Lisa Ann Combattente 4/24/2019 3:05 PMi really enjoyed participating in this challenge. I learned a great deal by reading environmental articles. I have become more conscious of my actions and learned how to incorporate more environmentally friendly actions with my lifestyle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/23/2019 4:47 PMImplementing these "Rs" should be a way of life for all. I have carefully given a lot of thought on how I can implement all of the "Rs" to help the environment. I have already reused cloth bags, reduced the amount of electricity by turning lights off, conserving water by turning it off while brushing my teeth, and I no longer by plastic water bottles. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/23/2019 4:07 PMI have noticed many health benefits since using smaller plates. Smaller plates help to control portion size, so I am consuming less foods, therefore, I am reducing the amount of calories, carbs, sugar, and salt in take. After eating, I feel more energetic because I am not over stuffed. Using smaller plates is also making me more conscious of what types of foods I am eating. Since it is a smaller plate and doesn't hold a lot, I have been filling it with more plant-based foods, so I am actually eating healthier and not -
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/19/2019 10:39 AMThis challenge is really making me aware of food portions. -
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/19/2019 10:37 AMToday, I carpooled with a friend to attend an event. This made the ride much more enjoyable and helps the environment, too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/18/2019 5:26 PMI am very lucky to have neighbors that share the same interests as I do. We often carpool to our library to participate in the amazing programs that are offered. We also walk around our community, including walking to 7-11 or to the grocery store. Carpooling or walking with friends provides a more social and stress free experience. You really get to know each other! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/17/2019 3:36 PMPlanting trees is exceptionally good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health. Besides providing us with oxygen to breath in healthy air, planting trees is physical exercise and helps to beautify your home or community, as well as helps to relieve stress because you focus on creating a better space for all humans and animals to benefit. -
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/16/2019 3:14 PMI'm so glad that I did this. Going "paperless" has reduced clutter and stress! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/16/2019 3:13 PMI want to prioritize my health over material "stuff" in my life. With a busy lifestyle, it is hard to take the time for myself to reflect, meditate, eat healthy, and exercise. I will try harder to take more time to do these things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Lisa Ann Combattente 4/16/2019 3:06 PMIn my opinion, I believe it is the busy North American lifestyle that contributes to people eating more meat than any other country. Many people are working long hours to keep up with rising costs. It's just more convenient and cost effective to have meat instead of a plant-based dish.
It is also the way my generation grew up eating meat dishes for dinner. Then, there was not much research on a plant-based diet. So now that there is more information about the health benefits of a plant based diet, people are more knowledgeable and hopefully the new generation will make healthier choices.
