I have planted 10 more little seedlings in my backyard.  Hope the rain establishes them well this spring. :-)

    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

People in North American eat more meat in my opinion because we were all brought up on meat and potatoes mostly and the TV adds showed us what to eat including TV Dinners - remember those. OH my!  We are too keyed into the TV instead of getting outside more frequently so that we'd see the changes in the climate which is impacted by all the meat grown and eaten in North America.  Meat -growing negatively impacts our environment... we all need to change to a plant based diet.  They are coming up with some pretty meaty tasting veggie burgers these days.

Its a perfect day to plant more tree seedlings as we had a half of inch of rain overnight and more sprinkling this morning and expecting more later in the week so the seedlings won't dry out before getting established.

Electricity Generation Advocate for Solar Installation
How does advocating for rooftop solar connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

Getting rooftop solar is so much better for the environment than covering open space with solar or cutting down trees for solar because the space is already there on your rooftop and in New Jersey you don’t want to waste space in this small state. Also, do you know that solar panels are so much more efficient every year so if you have a cape with dormers and trees around, you can still install solar. In New Jersey the cost was 0 down and our electric bill will go down next month when they turn the solar recently installed on our roof, on next month. We are so excited to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage you to look into solar too.

    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

Yes, in my younger years, my bicycle was my mode of transportation that took me through graduate school.  A post high school year abroad in Europe got me hooked on public transportation. I took it all over the place and everyday.  Subsequently, I was able to take the metro public transport system in Washington D.C. to my first professional employment sealing the deal of LOVE for public transportation.  Although I drive a car now most of the time, the bus is my alternate mode of transportation that I welcome for a more relaxed commute to and from work.  I think NJ is a prime place for public transportation to flourish with its highly population density and relative small area.  Try public transport - www.NJtransit.gov

Transport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Carey Compton's avatar
    Carey Compton 4/04/2019 1:44 PM
My main motivation for a more fuel-efficient vehicle was that we in the USA use too much fossil fuels - we are addicted to them and now I bought (with a loan - so I am generating the economy too) a 2016 Prius to replace my 2010 Subaru.  The Subaru was only getting 23 mpg and the Prius gets 50 mpg with ease.
