  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Generation
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

Some micro-turbines could be installed on top of the BB&T building or Asheville Middle School.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

I can give money to charities who will help protect them. I can also not consume the materials that they are destroying them for.

How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Even when the best by date has passed I know it is still okay to use and it won't hurt my health at all. This means I can take some of these in a grocery store that way they won't throw them away into the dump where it could take years to decompose.

Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

Next I think I could even get a couple solar panels because my family has already been thinking about it for a little bit and how it helps both us and the Earth in the long run.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

Now instead of throwing away anything that is broken or old, I can now repair them and use them again without wasting them. I could also refuse extra food or items I don't need/want this because I would just end up throwing it away and wasting something that somebody else could have used. Implementing these "R's" makes me feel helpful to the Earth.

How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

I found it pretty easy to change my diet because my dad has always been someone who tries to make my diet healthy, therefore, it doesn't make that big of a difference to my diet.
