"SEEDS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to implement local solutions to global issues at the intersection of ecology, education, and design. Incorporated in 1999 by a handful of young graduate students studying ecological engineering and social sciences. SEEDS has always embraced the word design to be broadly inclusive of everything from design of engaging educational curriculum to design of methodologies for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions to the designers of buildings and trails and neighborhoods. Our team always brings a holistic and creative perspective to design challenges. With the understanding that we operate within complex interconnected socio-ecological systems, we use a few primary program categories to frame our work: 1) Teaching & Learning: We provide programming for all age groups believing that the best education is experiential and having fun together leads to better outcomes. 2) Youth Conservation Corps: This workforce development program for 16-24 year olds focuses on job training for the green economy including nontoxic skilled trades, public lands access, habitat restoration, and so much more! 3) Energy & Environment: This arm of the organization takes a proactive and methodological approach to analysis and planning. When we quantify the impact of our choices, strategies and successes become more obvious. Our favorite work involves bringing these areas together, engaging stakeholders, and practicing strategies for change that have measurable outcomes. We invite you to learn more about our projects, our staff, and our work! "

Renee's actions
Transport
Use Muscle Power
#49 Cars
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Food
Support Local Food Systems
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will source 50 percent of my food from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Materials
Recycle Everything I Can
#55 Household Recycling
I will recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Buildings and Cities
Go for a Daily Walk
#54 Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.

Renee Cumming 4/03/2019 7:59 AMAs I just shared with my coworkers, I chose to walk myself home and make myself lunch instead of ordering food to be delivered to me at work! It's the little things ;)-
