In reading Population Connections magazine, I learned that Catholic hospitals in east Africa refuse to offer family planning services. Patients visit private clinics nearby for their family planning needs. With the Trump administration's reinstitution of the Global Gag Rule, women's health services facilities in Africa are closing from lack of funds. I learned that abstinence education in the US is ineffective in preventing teen pregnancies. I learned that most women want access to birth control and that about 50% of pregnancies in the US are unplanned.
