Last day! Sad. I wish I participated more, but I was traveling much of the time this month, so I couldn't get as involved as I would have liked.  I will continue to find new ways to use non-plastic materials. I just read an advertisement for toothbrushes made of bamboo instead of plastic. Great idea! I had not thought of my tooth brush as being environmentally damaging before, but clearly using bamboo is better even if it is more expensive.  My 1 criticism of the program is the design of the pages. As an older person, it was a challenge to understand what the program expected of me and wanted me to do.  I assume young people did not have this problem, but I wanted to mention it anyway.  Many thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the health of the environment.  Keep the spirit and energy going strong.

I have definitely been thinking more about the environment and climate destruction since I joined Ecochallenge. I recently bought mesh bags which I take to market and fill with fresh vegetables. No more plastic bags! The next thing I will buy are cloth container covers infused with beeswax, so I will use much less plastic wrap.  I also buy laundry detergent in a cardboard box instead of in a plastic bottle.  I also carry my own straw in my purse, so I don't have to use plastic straws at restaurants.  When I do buy something in a plastic container, I try to find another use for it after the contents are used up.  Of course, I also recycle plastic. Lastly, I have been signing up for more electronic billing, so I save paper from going into the garbage.  Every little step helps!

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I have been recycling, reusing and repurposing for many years. Recently, however, I started REFUSING to buy certain products that are sold in plastic containers.  I used to think recycling was good enough, but it is not.  It is more important  not buy products in plastic packaging, even when they are recyclable, if there are choices. I used to buy laundry and dishwasher detergents in large plastic  bottles, but now they also come in plastic bags (also recyclable), so I choose them instead. I feel very good about this.
