What did you learn on your green roof tour?

I enjoyed learning about all the green roofs around my local area - even some on public buildings!   As a real estate agent, I am always looking to share ideas with my clients about how to make their home more environmentally-friendly / sustainable.  Through my research this week, I learned the options for green roofs in the City of Asheville and surrounding areas.  I was unable to find anyone official to give me a "tour" of one.  However, I contacted a colleague who grew one at his own home and saw that one.  I don't think my own home is a good fit for a green roof, but I will be more inclined to suggest this feature in the future.

This week I got to clean up downtown Asheville as part of a collaboration between the city government and a local environmental nonprofit.  There was a good turnout with city officials and free pizza :)

This challenge has really motivated me to participate in activities that I may not have done in the past, like the downtown trash pickup in my local town.  Getting to know the local officials responsible for environmental policies has been a good way to learn more about my local government's services (or the lack thereof!).  Particularly the research I have done will guide me in future decision-making, and hope to continue to make small changes.
