REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
Alyssa Fennyery 4/23/2019 9:36 PM
Women with unmet need are those who are fecund and sexually active but are not using any method of contraception, and report not wanting any more children or wanting to delay the next child. The concept of unmet need points to the gap between women's reproductive intentions and their contraceptive behavior. Unmet need is found to be high in

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/18/2019 9:58 AMI want to prioritize spending time creating memories with my loved ones over the material objects in my life. It's sad when you go out to dinner, and see people at the other table both on their phones and not speaking to each other. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/15/2019 7:15 PMTo me I thought that the biochar was very interesting. Biochar is commonly made from waste material ranging from peanut shells to rice straw to wood scraps. During the slow baking of biomass in the near or total absence of oxygen, gas and oil separate from carbon-rich solids. The output is twofold: fuels that can be used for energy and biochar that can be used to enrich soil. When biomass decomposes on the earth’s surface, carbon and methane escape into the atmosphere. Biochar retains most of the carbon present in biomass feedstock and buries it. It's interesting that the carbon can sequester billions of tons of carbon dioxide per year!

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/15/2019 7:05 PMMy vision of a sustainable community would be not having polluted oceans, not having tons of landfills full of trash. I think one way that we could reduce it all is being more like Switzerland and how they burn their trash. The trash is used as energy and the only issue for them is that they are running out of trash so other countries pay them to take their trash. I think the U.S. really needs to get on board with this idea. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/12/2019 9:34 AMWhen researching I stumbled upon this really informational website for how one's diet impacts deforestation. I drink quite a bit of coffee and love eating chocolate so I need to find some brands that are eco friendly and find brands with rainforest alliance certifications. One thing I can not change unfortunately is my meat and dairy consumption I just love cheeseburgers! But I can stick to my a couple meals a week without meat as an effort.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social JusticeHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/09/2019 11:21 AMPublic transportation can: Improve air quality. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Facilitate compact development, conserving land and decreasing travel demand. Save energy. Among other benefits. You can advocate by leaving signs near the systems saying to recycle or putting up trash cans and recycling bins to reduce the trash pollution. Maybe also include this really cool thing I found on the internet to recycle cigarette butts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Alyssa Fennyery 4/09/2019 11:14 AMThey use traditional burning, fishing traps, and sowing and storing plants, they were able to create a system that was sustainable and supplied them with the food they needed. Creating your own garden would help with supplying your own food. This is something that I really want to do.
