What I learned about the need for family planning is that it could be hard planning for a family and there are a lot of responsibilities that have to be made and things will go nice and smoothly throughout life.

    Women and Girls
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

Women can equally do things like what a man can do. They can be strong and confident and have the right to do whatever they want.

I joined the challenge and chose the actions that I did because I'm more familiar with the challenges that were given and I usually do most of the challenges in my dorm room or in my house.

How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

Frequent and intense extreme weather events have resulted in a higher incidence of floods and drinking water and sanitation situation.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Dana Fialkowski's avatar
    Dana Fialkowski 4/04/2019 8:35 AM
The other R's make me feel good because when I'm at home I do some of the R's. I reuse water bottles and plastic utensils.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Dana Fialkowski's avatar

This label is aimed at consumers as a directive of the date by which the product should be eaten; mostly because of quality, not because the item will necessarily make you sick if eaten after the use-by date. However after the use-by date, product quality is likely to go down much faster and safety could be lessened.

    Sell-By
This label is aimed retailers, and it informs them of the date by which the product should be sold or removed from shelf life. This does not mean that the product is unsafe to consume after the date. Typically one-third of a product’s shelf-life remains after the sell-by date for the consumer to use at home.

    Best-By
This is a suggestion to the consumer on which date the product should be consumed to assure for ideal quality.

How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Dana Fialkowski's avatar
    Dana Fialkowski 4/02/2019 8:56 AM
The environmental quality influence in my sense of a community is that the people want to have a good health and want to be safe around a community where there is no danger at all.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Other benefits that might come out of eating smaller portions is that it won't make you feel so full anymore and it'll be more healthier for us and live longer.
