REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Briana Fisher 4/22/2019 6:30 AMRecycling is very important to me. Most of the trash collection companies here give you a small bin and pick up every other week. I generate at least a trash bag of recyclable items daily and so I went with a company who gave me a large trash bin for recycles and picks it up daily. I like the idea of refuse, repair and repurpose and need to be more creative with ideas to incorporate this. My parents are very good at those Rs. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Briana Fisher 4/22/2019 6:27 AMNext is recycling the LED Lightbulbs that have burned out. Too many people throw these in the garbage and they need to be properly recycled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Briana Fisher 4/22/2019 6:26 AMI have three nest thermostats. I have tried ecobee, lyric by Honeywell and nest. Nest is by FAR my favorite of all three. The nest thermostat will tell you how long each zone ran, and when it ran, and if it ran for a long time it will tell you WHY it ran (someone adjusted the setting, the weather affected the day, etc). I have schedules set up to conserve energy. In addition, Nest encourages the earning LEAVES. Leaves are the heat/cool setting that saves energy. At the end of the month they send you a newsletter letting you know how you did compared to others. I am even able to adjust my thermostat from my phone, and it has a geofence to adjust the temperature if I travel away from the house, to help save even more energy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Briana Fisher 4/22/2019 6:04 AMI believe the thought of knowing that food is going into landfills and not being used (fruits, vegetables) as compost bother me most. My parents have always composted (they even named their compost pile Herman the monster), so composting has always been important to me. In addition, the thought of the fertilizer excess, water and land being used to produce food that goes uneaten is another major motivator.
