How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

My diet impacts deforestation because I contribute to companies that directly contribute to deforestation. To decrease my negative impact I can start to be more concious of not including things in my diet that include palm oil, or stop using brands which I am now aware contribute to deforestation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

The BB&T buiding would be a good place for wind turbines. I also think that somewhere on the mountains may be good. We also have a lot of open field space that would be good for placing wind turbines.

As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

Now when I do things that are bad for the environment, i realize that it’s bad for the environment. And that I probably shouldn’t do it. So I try to make better decisions that will make me feel like a better person.
All of it,  im easily overwhelmed.
Also all of it, I like feeling like something I’m doing is helping the planet even if it’s just going on a walk or something.
    better future

    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    kati fox 4/09/2019 11:32 AM
No, I hadn’t heard of a silvopasture before now. Now that I know about it, I think that the biggest benefit would be diversifying your income, like chicken/duck eggs and growing mushrooms instead of just cattle.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

North Carolina can reinstate the tax refunds for passive geothermal. The federal government could provide incentives like tax refunds, reduced tax rates, or offer seed monies for active geothermal power plants.

I found out what sell by/use by dates are really for. I think the most interesting thing I learned was that sell by dates are for grocers, and help inventory management.

Literally everything? Like as of right now, I’ve read that scientists are saying that we only have 12 years to reverse climate change or the Earth may not be habitable? Or something like that? I don’t know, we’re literally like killing an entire planet! And most people don’t even seem to care, even though there are easy ways to help reverse our actions!
