I think it has to do with marketing, mass consumption, and the busy busy lives that Americans live. Fast food is easy, and one could argue, necessary for some. People have children, very little money, and work more than one job. The drive thru becomes a means to survival. Also, Americans tend to be ignorant when it comes to nutrition and diet. And so therefore don't understand how processed meats impact their health and the environment.
