Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Materials
Go Paperless
#70 Recycled Paper
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 0.11lbs (0.05kg) a day or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.

Multiple Solutions
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.

Improve a Bus Stop
#37 Mass Transit
I will improve a bus stop in my neighborhood by posting the stop schedule, adding seating or shelter, adding art or flowers, picking up litter, or implementing some other small improvement.

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social JusticeHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Shane Goldberg 4/17/2019 3:00 PMMass transit systems that are convenient to use will encourage more users. I saw a TED talk about a proposal for a mass transit system called 'urban cable'. It addressed many of the issues that often preclude people from utilizing mass transit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Shane Goldberg 4/17/2019 2:56 PMI would rather use this money for a family vacation. I have encouraged my sons to pour less milk in their cup and to refill them if they are thirsty for more. In the past they would fill a large tumbler with milk and store the leftover milk in the fridge, then the next day they would forget about it and pour a new cup of milk. It was so wasteful. -
Shane Goldberg 4/03/2019 5:13 AMI completed an online energy audit of my home at the PSEGLI website. I am still looking over the report to figure out ways that I can save energy in my home.
