  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Action Track: Social Justice
How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

Walking could work well for everyone. Unfortunately in some neighborhoods like the ones around Newark its hard to walk due to the area. One of the things that could make this a more "walkable" city are security, or investment in public programs and community centers.

Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

I contacted two officials today through phone. Unfortunately I couldn't speak to the actual congressman, I talked to two representative that said that they would pass on my message to them.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

Instead of having all my friends drive to work I decided to pick them up and set up a carpool, although Iv'e been trying not to drive there are places where we have to drive to so in that case we try to get as many people in one cat as we can.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

I like to eat a lot like most people do but eating smaller portions can be good for the environment and for me. I usually overcook and have left over so now I'm trying to keep track how much food I cook and make sure that I don't have any left overs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I try to recycle everything I can already but i didn't know that a lot of materials can be recycled that i didn't know about, for example I didn't know that some types of plastic bags could be recycled or that foam and foam cups can be recycled.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

I've never really looked into eating vegan meals, I've always though its kind of dumb to be honest. Since i have to cook its kind of hard to learn new recipes that don't have meat. I cooked with tofu for the first time and it really wasn't as bad as I thought. Although it wont be my go to source of protein its something that I will try to incorporate into my diet from now on.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

Instead of driving to to school and the gym I decided to walk and bike. Although its rough because it is a little cold still it wasn't bad at all. I saw people that I usually wouldn't see and it was really nice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

Instead of flying, I decided to take a bus to see my family over Easter Break. The train was less expensive and will take a little more time but its something easy that is worth doing.
