REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Shawna Hartung 4/03/2019 3:51 PMI have been less diligent in recent months about researching where the meat I purchase comes from and asking about sources before I buy or eat out at restaurants. I'd like to get back into the habit to be sure I am not contributing to cattle grazing vs. intact forests. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Shawna Hartung 3/26/2019 2:50 PMAcknowledging the difference between these three dates will help me to not throw away food that is probably still good. -
Shawna Hartung 3/26/2019 2:49 PMWhen I was young, there were more times than I'd like to mention when I opened a container in my family fridge that had expired food dates and to my surprise, a funky smell or look would jump out at me. Since then, as an adult, I have gone to the other extreme and do not like to eat packaged food past any date listed whether it's "use by or best by or sell by." I typically try to choose packaged food that is the "freshest" and has the longest time until the date listed. With this challenge, I will face my fears and be realistic about packaged food and not throw it away automatically without my best judgement.
