REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
debby howard 4/07/2019 6:40 PMBamboo clothing is available and some bamboo dishes. I have to say I have some skepticism about how green bamboo is though. Undoubtedly better than plastic, we need to be very conscious of the energy and chemicals used and chemical waste created in transforming bamboo into other products. However the article on the uses of bamboo instead of trees in Africa for many uses was very hopeful.-
Heather Kennedy-MacNeill 4/12/2019 11:51 AMHere’s an article in The Guardian about the problem with my beloved bamboo - if anybody finds more stuff about how to buy ethical bamboo, I’d love to see it.. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2008/aug/13/bamboo.fabric -
Heather Kennedy-MacNeill 4/07/2019 10:15 PMI love bamboo and am lying now in bamboo sheets...but it would be interesting to find out more about it. Organic bamboo would be my first choice. I’m going to read more about this. Thanks Debby!

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
debby howard 4/07/2019 6:28 PMCoffee is not so much of a problem for me to deal with, nor chocolate, but seeing how many things palm oil is in that I use daily, and how many different names it can be hidden under was a surprise. It's going to be a real challenge to avoid it but I was happy to see some more accessible substitutions.-
Kasia Stepien 4/07/2019 9:41 PMAnother note, this made me think of how much we're accustomed to diverse, novel, pleasurable foods being a regular part of our diet. I've been thinking about shifting my habits to treat items like chocolate, coffee, tropical fruits, etc. only as rare, special occasion foods. -
Kasia Stepien 4/07/2019 9:31 PMI agree this is challenging Debby, and something I have been striving for as well. I didn't notice this particular challenge when I was selecting mine, I'm glad you're doing it so that I was made aware. I look forward to hearing further insights if any arise!
