REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Eliot Hunsberger 4/23/2019 6:14 PMI learned that there are many types of wave and tidal energy, including tidal turbines, tidal barrages, tidal fences, surface devices, underwater devices, and reservoirs. These use the energy from waves or tides moving the water to spin turbines and generate energy. Tidal turbines generate more energy than wind turbines, and are better because they generate more consistent energy since the tide is constant. However, these devices are very expensive to install and maintain and using them can cause harm to fish and sea animals as well as make migration for sea creatures difficult. In addition to this, there are limited locations where these devices can be installed. Wave and tidal energy has its pros and cons, and as of now there are only two locations where it is used in the world (France and Canada). This is a possible renewable resource we should keep in mind as an alternative to other energy sources that contribute to climate change! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Eliot Hunsberger 4/08/2019 7:29 AMBy knowing the difference between these dates, I can help decrease the amount of food waste I produce. Since I now have a better idea about what these dates mean, I will not throw food away (based on incorrect information that it has gone bad) when it is still safe to eat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Eliot Hunsberger 4/08/2019 6:39 AMI think that North American eats more meat than other countries for several reasons. First, American culture and typical American foods often involve a lot of meat (hamburgers, barbeque, hot dogs, fried chicken, etc). In terms of our culture, this could include activities like hunting (which is big in the US), as well as the fact that many people enjoy meat and we tend to eat meat at parties or group gatherings. This is different from other countries where meat does not hold as big of an importance in their food or culture. This shows that America holds a higher importance on what we want and our own needs rather than the greater importance of preserving the environment and our planet for the future.
