Turn off sink while brushing teeth etc, run dishwasher only when its completely full, shorter shower times, and water plants and lawn in the morning to cut down on evaporation!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

As a self-labeled fast eater, reducing portions has increased my ability to control my meal intakes! I feel better after meals and don't reach that classic "overstuffed" point!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

Normally, if I go out to lunch, I will walk unless it's raining. However, in EcoChallenge mode I grabbed an umbrella and made the trek!

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

Learning how methane digesters convert food waste and plant and animal material into usable electricity, bio-gas, and digestate for soil and farmland was inspiring. I think this form of creating renewable energy to flow to college campuses, farmlands and parts of cities is a major step to sustainable community living.
