#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Jason Johnson 4/04/2019 10:35 PMThat surplus money can be allocated to other expenses such as utility bills or modes of recreation. These numbers are gross but not a surprise to me because I am aware that the typical American however mundane or simplistic their lifestyle may be lives in indulgence in contrast to people of lesser means. -
Jason Johnson 4/04/2019 8:13 PMWhen I began this challenge I remained cognizant that I wanted to minimize my food waste, but I figured I should catalog my normal food waste as a control variable or point of reference to discern change. The first day I threw away half a banana, six chicken wings and various baked items.
