Emily Jones 4/23/2019 2:35 PMI can't believe this challenge is almost over! Time flies! I appreciate the activity for reinforcing behaviors I have like eating at least 2 meatless meals a day and walking for at least 30 minutes. It also forced me to consider things like portion size with my challenge of eating smaller portions. I think it's important to participate in activities like EcoChallenge because it reminds you of the impact of your behaviors. -
Emily Jones 4/13/2019 2:20 PMFor my mom's birthday this year I sent her my copy of I Am Malala and donated to the Malala fund online. One of my goals is to donate to charity when celebrating folks that don't need or want more "stuff". As we have learned through exploration of the consumptive economy and the "story of stuff", one of the key drivers of environmental social justice issues is consumerism. Each of us has the opportunity through our own consumer behavior to change that pattern, and the more people who do, the greater the positive impact. -
Emily Jones 4/09/2019 5:48 PMI have found it difficult to find a bra and underwear that support my environmental ethics. The typical spot for ladies wear is Victoria's Secret, but since they use prison labor, I've stopped spending money there. I've had a hard time searching for local, affordable options. I've researched multiple sustainable clothing companies and thought I would never find the right fit until I found Boody! https://boodywear.com Now I am comfortable and know that my dollars aren't supporting a system of oppression, and my booty is covered! -
Emily Jones 4/03/2019 4:31 PMToday I was craving a cheeseburger! So, I went to my favorite burger spot, Killer Burger, and got a hemp and black bean patty. I will say that not all vegan patties satisfy that "meaty" texture, but in my experience the mix of black bean and hemp really does the trick! It's healthier for me and for the environment! I love choosing options that I know my body will benefit from and that I truly enjoy. When I first switched to vegan patties I felt like I was missing out. Now when I say I want a burger, I don't think twice, of course I mean a veggie burger, lol!
