My food waste today was a bowl of rice. It wasn't spoiled nor was I full. I just wanted the dumplings and the rice was terrible.

For the past three days, I reduced my food waste to tiny bits of food. I have also reduced my cocoa intake.

Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

I don't know if they are readily available in my community, but I would purchase these items online.

Bamboo alternatives are heavily available! Bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo chopsticks (and other utensils), and bamboo containers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 2
How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?

For me, it is a somewhat easy process to change my diet. Once I am certain that I should not include a certain ingredient into my diet, I just try out other foods and I end up liking them.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

When eating smaller portions, it allows one to gain self control because we control the temptation to put on food, that is always present to us, on our plates.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

    Calvin Kem's avatar
    Calvin Kem 4/04/2019 6:05 AM
I would rather spend the money on other necessities like paying the utility bill.

I haven't started yet, but I am excited to see how it will go.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

    Calvin Kem's avatar

People in North America focus on the taste of foods and do not think about all the processes that are taken to acquire that food. Also, the food pyramid displays protein as only coming from meat. I assume that due to the food pyramid that we are taught, we strive to enforce what we learned as children rather than what we can learn now.
